Our creative writing camps are part of the White Water Writers initiative, a literacy project that enables groups of up to 10 children and young people write and publish their own novel in five days. In collaboration with White Water Writers (based in the UK), we facilitate the process, providing students with an idea for a story -about half a side of A4 long- which they then develop, draft, proof and publish! The books are then available for purchase on the Amazon UK website. Profit from sales is eventually distributed among the authors. At the end of the week, our participants improve their literacy, communication and teamwork skills and make gains in areas like attention to detail, attainment and self-esteem. This programme is made possible by a specially designed online collaborative writing tool that was developed by academics at Royal Holloway, University of London and Keele University.
